Madrid, 9 February 2026 – Alastria has announced the appointment of Miguel Ángel Calero as Executive Director of ISBE (Spanish Blockchain Services Infrastructure) at a pivotal moment for the project, marked by ISBE’s transition from its initial deployment phase toward consolidation as an operational, sustainable, nationwide blockchain infrastructure with a European outlook.
The objective of this appointment is to drive the development of ISBE as a public-permissioned blockchain infrastructure, designed for regulated environments and aligned with European regulatory frameworks on digital identity, trust services, and digital assets, while promoting its effective adoption by companies, institutions, and public administrations in Spain, Europe, and Latin America.
Miguel Ángel brings more than 20 years of experience in digital transformation, emerging technologies, and innovation ecosystem development. Until January 2026, he served as Head of Emerging Technologies at Izertis, where he led the creation and scaling of this practice, managing a team of over 50 professionals and overseeing R&D initiatives and market solutions in areas such as blockchain, Web3, digital identity, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies, with a focus on the European and Latin American markets.
Previously, following the 2022 integration of the startup Wealize—a digital product firm specializing in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and software development, which he co-founded—he assumed responsibilities in Web3 and artificial intelligence strategy and business development within Izertis.
Linked to Alastria since 2019, Miguel Ángel Calero has actively participated in its working groups and later served as a member of its Board of Directors.
His appointment as Executive Director of ISBE represents a natural evolution of this trajectory, moving from ecosystem contribution and governance to the direct execution of a strategic infrastructure.
His professional background is further complemented by active involvement in advancing the technology ecosystem in Spain and Europe. He has served as a Board Member of INATBA (International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications) and as a Board Member of the Artificial Intelligence Cluster of the Community of Madrid. In the field of international standardization, he participates as an expert in ISO/TC 307 and CEN/CENELEC JTC 19, focused on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
As Executive Director of ISBE, Miguel Ángel Calero’s main responsibilities will include consolidating the operational infrastructure, driving the adoption of real-world use cases in both the public and private sectors, and leading the project’s evolution toward a scalable and economically sustainable model, strengthening ISBE’s role as a key infrastructure for the digital economy in Spain and Europe.
“I first came into contact with blockchain (Web3, decentralized technologies—call it what you will) more than ten years ago because it helped solve real problems, beyond purely technological interest.
Alastria was, and continues to be, one of the pioneering communities with the longest international track record, from which the first infrastructures were built that enabled startups, large companies, and public administrations to develop proofs of concept, pilots, and production solutions to explore the real benefits of the technology, also inspiring similar initiatives across Europe and Latin America.
ISBE is the result of all these learnings: a globally pioneering infrastructure, designed to generate real impact, capable of hosting regulated use cases, with clear rules, institutional trust, and a European dimension.
I am delighted to take on the challenge of consolidating ISBE as a benchmark public-permissioned infrastructure, serving economic and social impact, aligned with Europe, and with a long-term vision from Spain,” said Miguel Ángel Calero.
With this appointment, Alastria enters a new phase of consolidation for ISBE within the Spanish and European ecosystem, positioning it as an infrastructure aimed at accelerating the business and operations of companies, startups, and public administrations.
